Interview by Ty Nagvajara
Maddie Rubin, a senior, has always had a love for art, no matter what contemporary. She is currently in Metal Arts 4 and has made some incredible works over the years. Although primarily taking Metal Arts at Harriton, she still finds time to explore other areas of art on her own. Learn more about Maddie below!
HOW IS THE ARTWORK YOU MAKE MEANINGFUL TO YOU?
I like to put color in my work because that is how I view the world- as a very colorful place. Sometimes I'll try to tell a story of a good memory through my artwork.
WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR INSPIRATION?
My inspiration is probably just like things or memories that are significant to me.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE PART ABOUT WORKING WITH METALS?
I like texturing metal; I like how it looks.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE VACATION DESTINATION? HOW HAS IT IMPACTED YOUR ART?
My favorite vacation destination is Raquette Lake, New York. I represented this place in a recent pendant piece
FAV ICE CREAM FLAVOR?
Probably Chocolate Cake Batter from Handles.
WHAT’S A STYLE OF MUSIC THAT YOU LIKE, THAT MANY MAY NOT KNOW?
Country!
WHAT OTHER STYLES OF ART DO YOU LIKE?
Pen and ink, and also pencil sketches.
WHAT DO YOU WANT YOUR ART TO TELL YOUR AUDIENCE?
When people look at my art, I want them to view the world the way I see it momentarily. I think art creates a deeper understanding of the creator’s mind than any other form of communication, but it's also amazing that each piece of art is left up for interpretation so the viewer can relate their own life experiences to my pieces.
