Going to the same restaurants in Suburban Square every weekend can often be very tiresome. Fortunately, the city of Philadelphia has fantastic places to get food, many of which are not widely known by the students here at Harriton. Several weekends ago, we made our way into Philly for dinner at a Mexican restaurant called Blue Corn. When we stepped inside, the festive yet quaint atmosphere made us feel right at home. The walls were decorated in a Mexican style and gave off an authentic feel; small, colorful Mexican flags lined the walls along with other pieces of art. Two televisions, one at the small bar against the back wall and the other in the main dining area, were displaying live sports games.

We sat down hungry at a wooden table and perused the menu, which was full of a large variety of options. We finally decided on the blue corn tacos (a best-seller), rice and beans, and a dish called Azteca (cactus), a risky choice, but it was too intriguing to pass up. The waiter came over and promptly took our order. After a brief period of waiting, our food was brought out. The tacos wrapped in a blue corn softshell, and they were delicious. The cactus, however, was the best part of the meal. The waiter informed us that they prepare it first by removing all the spike, then shearing off the hard exterior. The inside is then cooked and topped with your choice of meat. The dish was amazing and was very authentically Mexican.

Overall, Blue Corn was a wonderful experience, and definitely something to try if you are looking to try something new. Blue Corn provides a low-key, comfortable setting and also has excellent food. It is a great option among many others in the best city in the world: Philly!
