Rodrick Heffley Costume

This costume was a pair with James Oltmann's Greg Heffley costume. I thought the outfits Rodrick wore in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid movie were a bit basic, so I sought to create a more interesting outfit while preserving the general vibe. For the shirt, I sketched out a design on paper, then made a stencil for the letters to make sure the size and spacing was correct. I then used a paintbrush to paint over the stencil with bleach, and used a smaller paintbrush to add details. For the necklaces, I bought a length of chain and used pliers to shorten it to my desired length, then secured them with safety pins. I used the remaining chain length to make a bracelet, also secured with a safety pin. I bought the rest of the accessories, including the rings, the leather bracelet, and the razor pendant. The striped undershirt was one of my mom's shirts, and the black skinny jeans were from my closet. The hair and makeup took about 20 minutes. My hair texture is very different from Rodrick's, so I just wanted to make it look interesting with a lot of black hairspray. I wanted my makeup to look sloppy, in order to match Rodrick's makeup in the movie and the crazy hair. I didn't have black eyeliner, so I used black mascara and dark brown eyeliner. Overall, I was satisfied with how the costume came out, especially with the shirt. I felt I strayed a good bit from the vibe I was going for, but I thought the result was a good caricature.
