Questions

What's your favorite medium to create with?

My favorite medium to create art with would either be watercolor or acrylic. I love the way that the watercolor flows, but I also love the strong color of the acrylic. I feel that they are both very different and give off very unique textures.

What was your introduction to those artforms?

I would always see people on Instagram create incredible pieces of art with watercolor seeming to look like acrylic, so I felt the need to re-create those strong pieces with watercolor as well. I also started using watercolor because I was not too good at it, and wanted to improve.

From where do you derive inspiration?

I derive inspiration from music, my surroundings, the faces people make, movies and more. Any time I see a Disney movie, I always have this burning inspiration that motivates me to create new artwork.

Who are your favorite visual artists?

Some of my favorite visual artists would be Kehinde Wiley and Dimitra Milan.

Are there any media you find yourself experimenting with more than others?

I experiment a lot more with acrylic and watercolor. Lately I’ve also been trying to do some collages and putting different kinds of media together.

What is your thematic exploration for IB Visual Arts? How are you portraying it?

My thematic exploration for IB Visual Arts is the representation of my moves throughout the years, hopping from one country to the next. I explore how I felt during those times, how I've changed, and what I have seen. I am portraying my theme by using symbols in my artworks that relate to grief, culture, adventure, and exploration.

How does relocating often affect your artwork?

Relocating often has influenced me as an artist because it allows me to portray my art in different ways, experimenting with symbolism, media, and perspectives of each move.

How has your makeup artistry influenced your personal style?

My makeup artistry has not particularly affected my personal style as an artist. It has allowed me to visually see things differently, but what has majorly changed my personal style would be the other artists which inspire me.

What’s your taste in music and/or what do you listen to while you’re creating?

I have no specific taste in music. I like rap/hip-hop, pop, soft pop, latin pop, reggaeton, and more. Depending on how I am feeling that day, or what I am painting, is what I listen too. Something I really like to do when I make art is watch TV, it entertains me and makes me work for longer periods of time.

How do you plan to incorporate art into your life in the future?

When I am older, I want to work at Disney as a character designer. This is how I will incorporate my art into my life in the future, by creating entertainment for people to see and making them feel the way I feel when watching Disney movies.
